At Chubb, we believe in the continuous growth and development of our people. Over the past 12 months, we have shifted our thinking in the world of talent and development. Instead of solely relying on external hiring, we are placing greater emphasis on upskilling and reskilling our employees. We see this as the perfect way to keep up with rapidly evolving technologies and the changing demands of our business landscape. We recently caught up with our Director of Employee Experience and Development, Kirsty Brooks for an update about some of our learning and development initiatives. One of our key focuses has been providing personalised and adaptive learning experiences for our employees. We understand that everyone learns differently, at their own pace, and with unique needs. While there will always be a need for employees with strong engineering skills, we also recognise that soft skills, such as communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, are highly valued and go a long way in helping to build great leaders and an inclusive workplace culture.
Workday Learning
The introduction of Workday Learning has unlocked a wide range of educational resources for our colleagues. Since launching the Workday Learning Management System in April, we’ve enhanced our transparent learning portfolio with content covering technical, sales, customer support, and many other areas.
LinkedIn Learning
We have also integrated LinkedIn Learning into our development offering, which means colleagues can access over 10,000 modules. This platform offers bite-sized learning as well as more in-depth learning options.
Competitive Edge
More recently, in June, we introduced our Management Edge programme and invited 75 colleagues to join. The programme enables them to achieve a formal Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Level 3 qualification. There are internally delivered sessions that provide an overview of our organisation, while modules from the world-renowned FranklinCovey help to enhance their learning. Furthermore, we have also just launched applications for our Leadership Edge programme. Starting in September 2023, this 18-month programme will equip our aspiring and current managers with the skills to lead teams and drive business success. Once completed, each colleague will achieve an ILM Level 5 qualification. But that’s not all. Our sales teams have also been upskilling. Some have been actively developing early career programmes, while others have been embedding a sales coaching culture that supports the success of each sales professional at Chubb. In 2022, we launched the Sales Associate programme, which welcomed six talented graduates into our sales team. Our training partners at BMS Progress support our associates through the 18-month course and help them work towards a Level 4 Sales Professional qualification. Plus, our Sales Directors and Managers, who have supported our sales professionals, will graduate from their Level 5 Sales Coaching qualification very soon.
Trailblazers
Apprentices are our organisation’s lifeblood, and we continue to invest in our well-established apprenticeship programme. We have 18 early-career roles across various areas: marketing, admin, finance, and engineering. If you know someone who wants to blaze their trail in an exciting organisation, please encourage them to get in touch. Our training initiatives don’t stop there. Last August, we launched our Accelerated Development Programme, which allows individuals to retrain in the Fire and Security industry. Together with our recruitment partner, Zitko Group, we have successfully recruited 36 new engineers embarking on a new career journey with Chubb. In addition, we continue to develop our organisational culture and further our ambition to nurture the leaders of tomorrow. Our Building Great Leaders initiative has recently seen the rollout of two new modules, “I am a Leader” and “What in the World is a Worldview”. It’s an exciting time for this initiative as we aim to release further modules later this year and host a series of “Leader Labs” that will help us shape and develop our leaders. At Chubb, we recognise the positive impact of investing in learning and development on our business. By providing resources and support for personal and professional development, we continue to build a strong and capable team that will help us achieve our goals now and in the future. If this sounds like an organisation you would like to be a part of, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us because we would love to hear from you.
