Project Overview

Mizkan, a leading food processor in the UK with Japanese ownership, operates from two production sites in Greater Manchester and Suffolk, with headquarters in London. Seeking to upgrade its fire detection system, the company entrusted Chubb to enhance the safety and security of its facilities.

Customer Needs

Mizkan originally enquired about installing an aspiration system in its Suffolk facility. However, upon closer inspection, it became evident that its existing fire alarm system was inadequately maintained and posed risks to the safety of its facilities.

Outdated panels and unreliable networking prompted Chubb to recommend a comprehensive solution that addressed the need for improved fire detection and increased reliability and efficiency of the fire safety infrastructure.

As a result, the project scope expanded to encompass an upgraded fire detection system at both primary sites, reflecting Mizkan’s commitment to ensuring the highest safety and security standards for their operations.

Solution and Benefits

Chubb’s solution encompassed the networking of five control panels and the implementation of a sophisticated graphics package for real-time monitoring and control.

Initially, Mizkan expressed interest in implementing the system solely in one section of the building. However, after witnessing the effectiveness and capabilities of the proposed solution, Mizkan recognised the value it could bring to other critical areas of its facilities.

The scope expanded once more to include additional installations in key areas such as the logistics warehouse, boiler house, and processing/packaging area.

The networking of control panels allows seamless communication between devices, ensuring comprehensive coverage and swift detection of fire incidents across the facilities. The graphics package provides a digital map interface, enabling facility managers to monitor the status of all devices and quickly identify the location of any potential fire incidents.

Furthermore, the upgraded fire detection system offers simplified servicing and maintenance, reducing downtime and operational disruptions. With fewer manual interventions and a streamlined testing process, Mizkan can expect lower long-term maintenance costs and enhanced operational efficiency.

Innovative Features

The newly implemented system integrates AdvancedLive, a digital representation of the Advanced fire system.

AdvancedLive enables remote monitoring and alerts via mobile apps. With over 400 devices networked together, this feature empowers maintenance managers and personnel to receive instant notifications of any fire incidents, allowing for rapid response and mitigation measures, even when they are off-site.

The detection system used also offers enhanced reliability in adverse conditions, creating a reliable system.

Project Summary

Through strategic planning and collaboration, Chubb successfully implemented a state-of-the-art fire detection system that meets Mizkan’s evolving needs.

The project, which spanned 3-4 months, involved meticulous planning and execution, led by a dedicated account manager and supported by Chubb’s fire experts.

By embracing innovative solutions and prioritising customer satisfaction, Chubb has set a new standard in fire detection technology, ensuring the safety and security of Mizkan’s facilities for years to come.
