An essential component of any fire alarm system, the control panel is the centre of the operation. It is from here that all detection devices, sounders and signalling elements of the fire alarm system are monitored and controlled. The control panel also provides essential information on power and battery backups. A simple fire alarm system may have just one fire alarm panel, but a larger premises or multi-building site may require a number of networked panels capable of supporting multiple detection types across a large number of zones.
Conventional fire alarm systems are best suited for small to medium-sized premises that are divided into a maximum of eight fire zones.
An addressable fire alarm systems work on a two-wire loop system. Each device on the system has an address that is monitored by the control panel, which is capable of analysing the data sent through the network to detect whether a device is functioning normally, experiencing a fault, at the pre-alarm stage, or detecting a fire. These large-scale systems may cover up to 250 fire zones or more.
